Last weekend saw several of our swimmers compete in our first Level 1 meet of the season held in the new 50m Pool in Winchester. This was a great opportunity to compete in a new location against some of the best swimmers in the south east region.

Over the weekend we had 15 swimmers competing in 51 races. There were 19 Personal Best times and another 24 swims which were Long Course PB’s. This also included a number of regional times being achieved and some of our swimmers are now on the rankings list for the summer nationals.

The Stingrays Gold medallists were:

  • Theo Parker-Minty (16) - 400m IM, 200m Fly
  • Iola Bellinger (14) – 50m BR, 100BR, 200BR

The Stingrays Silver medallists were:

  • Theo Parker-Minty (16) - 200m IM

The Stingrays Bronze medallists were:

  • Georgie Byam (15) – 800m FC
  • Theo Parker-Minty (16) - 200m BK
  • Leo Iverson (12) – 200m BR, 50m BR
  • Nicholas Grant (12) – 100m FC, 100m Fly

There were many other great swims over the weekend with all swimmers actively involved in discussing race plans and they are now learning to understand the big differences between swimming in a 50m pool compared to a 25m pool. The swimmers also had to learn to deal with long time gaps between races and they took responsibility for this by sensibly using the cool down pool to keep loose and be race ready.

I would like to say a big thank you to Jon and Rashan as team managers for their hard work in getting the swimmers to their races on time. The swimmer’s behaviour on poolside was again exemplary through the whole weekend, and the team spirit showed by all swimmers was fantastic, ensuring all our swimmers knew they had support when they raced.
