Our volunteering community forms the backbone and heart of Salisbury Stingrays.
Volunteers support our club, events and programmes and help ensure that swimming continues to grow and thrive in Salisbury. Their contribution is invaluable and makes an enormous difference to our swimmers, coaches and families.
A successful swimming club needs much more than swimmers in the pool. It depends on a dedicated team of volunteers, officials, teachers, coaches, trustees and committee members working together behind the scenes.
There are many different ways to help. You might volunteer regularly, support a particular project or simply lend a hand at one of our open meets or club events.
Why volunteer?
Volunteering is hugely rewarding. It is a great way to develop yourself and others, meet new people, learn useful skills and give something back to your local community.
Volunteering can also lead to fantastic opportunities to become involved in exciting swimming events and to play a direct part in the success of our swimmers and our club.
Helping at galas and open meets
We are always grateful for volunteers who can help at the open meets, club championships and other events that we organise. Every volunteer performs an important role in helping the event run smoothly, safely and fairly for all swimmers.
Volunteering at an event may mean giving up some of the time when your swimmer is competing and you might otherwise be watching from the balcony. However, it is also a fun and rewarding way to become part of the event—and your swimmer may be proud to see you helping.
Never volunteered before?
Please do not worry. You do not need previous experience for many of our roles. We have a friendly and experienced team and can pair you with someone who already knows the job.
We will explain what you need to do and make sure you feel supported. Nobody will be expected to take on a role they are not comfortable performing.

Not sure whether you are available?
Please still speak to us. Even when the published volunteer list looks full, additional helpers can be extremely useful on the day.
Plans sometimes change, people become unavailable and extra hands are often needed. There is nearly always something useful you can do.
What should volunteers wear?
Only registered event officials—such as timekeepers, judges and referees—are normally required to wear the recognised all-white poolside uniform.
Other volunteers may wear their own suitable poolside clothing. A Salisbury Stingrays club top is welcome, but it is not essential. We may also have spare club tops available to borrow.
Poolside can become very warm, so please dress comfortably and bring a reusable water bottle that can be refilled during the event.
Bring with you

- Your Stingrays top, when available
