Swim School Information

General information and guidelines

Drop Off and Pick Up

  • Parents should deliver their children to the pool but should not enter the poolside area themselves.
  • At Five Rivers, children should enter the pool hall via the changing rooms.
  • If there are exceptional circumstances requiring a parent to be on poolside, this must be arranged in advance with the teacher or Swim School Manager.
  • Parents should remain in the building while their children are having lessons.
  • Parents of very young children should actively supervise the lesson in case their child needs to use the toilet. Teachers and assistants can direct children to the toilets but are not permitted to accompany them.
  • Please arrive on time. The warm-up is an important part of every lesson.
  • While your child is in a lesson, please avoid communicating with them, as this can distract both your child and the rest of the class.

Parental Supervision Requirements

Children under 8 years

  • A parent or guardian should remain visually and/or verbally contactable for the full duration of the session and stay in the immediate vicinity of the pool.
  • Drop off and collection should take place at the pool hall exit: the foyer area at Godolphin and the poolside showers at Five Rivers.
  • Parents or guardians are not required or permitted to be on poolside unless prior arrangements have been made.

Children aged 8–12 years

  • A parent or guardian must remain within the building throughout the session and be immediately contactable.
  • Drop off and collection should take place within the pool building.
  • Parents or guardians should wait with their swimmer until the teacher arrives and the session begins.

Equipment

  • Children should wear a suitable swimming costume, jammers or swimming trunks.
  • Board shorts, wetsuits and rash vests are not recommended, as they restrict movement and create additional drag.
  • Well-fitting goggles are considered essential equipment.
  • The first swim hat for each stage is provided.
  • Swim hats are compulsory at Godolphin School and recommended at Five Rivers.
  • Fins are not required until the Pre-Competitive stage. A limited number are available to borrow, although the correct size cannot always be guaranteed. Advice on purchasing suitable fins can be provided when required.

SEND

Please let us know if your child has any Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND). Sharing this information helps us plan lessons appropriately and provide the best possible support and outcomes for your child.

Feedback and Comments

  • Swim lessons run back-to-back, so teachers usually have limited time to speak with parents between sessions.
  • Please direct any questions or concerns to the Swim School Manager.
  • If this is not possible, please email [email protected]. We aim to respond as soon as possible.
  • Please do not attempt to speak with teachers while lessons are in progress.
  • The Swim School Manager role is part-time, so although we aim to respond promptly, replies may not always be immediate.
