New Parents Evening
Our membership secretary, Chloe Mills, is organising a new squad parents evening at 7pm in the Wyle Room at Five Rivers tomorrow, 27th January. There will be a presentation, and it should be a good chance to ask questions and get advice about open meet entries and any other aspect of the club. The meeting is predominantly aimed at Junior Squad parents but anyone is welcome, including senior swimmers’ parents who may be able to pass on the benefit of their experience.
Tuesday Morning Training
Great news as we’ve been given an opportunity to get more pool time on Tuesday mornings at Five Rivers, from 6am to 8am! Tim recently sent an email to the squads concerned (Senior performance, Age performance, Junior performance 1) to gauge opinion and has since confirmed that the new sessions will commence 28th January. Some people will inevitably find the session difficult to attend whilst the opposite is true for those who go to school in Salisbury. For this reason, we have decided to book the time and will not raise fees at the current time. We will run the sessions and see how well patronised they are and keep the situation under review, at least until the end of this season.
Saturday Morning Cross Fit
At the same time we were offered more pool time at Five Rivers, Old Sarum Cross Fit in Harnam (Age Performance, Senior Performance, Senior Squad) notified us that our fees will be rising 40% as they have renegotiated their lease and need to pass on a large rent increase to their customers. We have decided to continue with these higher costs until the end of the season but will have to keep this situation under review.
Sprint Squad
Tim has recently offered a lane to a new Sprint Squad on Mondays at Five Rivers. This is open to senior competitive swimmers who don’t want to commit to a high volume of training. Places are limited so membership is currently on an invitation basis.
Help Needed!
The Club Officers, committee members, officials and meet staff are all volunteers and take on this unpaid work in order to run the club for all the members. We would like recruit and expand our base of volunteers to replace retiring members and to allow the volunteering load to be split between more people.
All volunteers will have their Swim England Club Support membership paid by the club, as well as other associated costs such as safeguarding courses and DBS checks.
If you are interested in officiating at meets, please contact Andrew Kennedy at [email protected]. Officiating is a great way to get a poolside view of the action to get an insight into the technical side of swimming and meet management.
If you can help out in any other way please contact Natasha Falkner at [email protected]. We would especially like to recruit team managers. This involves looking after children poolside at meets and making sure that they go to marshalling at the right time. It’s fun and a brilliant way to spend time with the swimmers and get a close-up view of the racing.
Codes of Conduct
Swim England has updated some of the codes of conduct so we’ve brought ours up to date which means you will be asked to reacknowledge them in the near future when you sign on to SCM.
And Finally...
Greg's Leg
Greg has a rupture to his Achilles tendon so temporarily unable to take land training sessions or dad-dance. A loss to Stingrays, not so much for Elsie.
