Calne November Level 3 open meet report
20 Nov 2023
This was our second meet of the season and despite the cramped poolside conditions, slippery pool trough which impacted the turns and the murky pool, there were some fantastic swims from all those who took part. There were also some swimmers gaining county qualifying times for the first time which was a great achievement.
Over the weekend we had 43 swimmers competing in 241 races. There were 138 Personal Best times and another 47 swims within 1 second of the PB’s.
It was great to see so many swimmers taking part and some heats were entirely Salisbury swimmers. There were lots of different medal winners over the weekend and in total the team won 54 Gold medals, 41 Silver medal and 17 Bronze medals.
Following on from the Bristol meet, all swimmers continued to take responsibility for their warm ups and race starts, which they did brilliantly. For future meets we have reminded all the swimmers to know what races they are swimming in for each session so they can adapt their warm ups accordingly.
Everyone was also really engaged in their pre and post-race discussions with the coaches and the support for each other on poolside throughout the meet was excellent.
The performances continue to reflect the effort and dedication the swimmers have put into their training and hopefully everyone is starting to see that the hard work put into training pays off and we will no doubt see some more great swimming in the coming weeks as we build towards Counties.
I would like to say a massive thank you to Jon and Natasha who were team managers for the weekend and well done to all the swimmers whose behaviour on poolside was exemplary through the whole weekend, despite the cramped conditions. Again, it was a real pleasure to be part of the team representing our fantastic club.
