Izzy Davies and Katy Cutler were key players in what proved to be the first win by a Dorset Team in the regional championships for 50 years. They were competing against Devon and Gloucester. The full tournament report is attached.
Salisbury Stingrays travelled to Bradford on Avon for the 3rd round of the Wiltshire Summer League. Bradford on Avon hosted the event with Corsham, Salisbury Stingrays and Trowbridge B making up the four team event.
Salisbury got off to a steady start with Emma Jackson getting Salisbury’s first win in the girls Under 12s 50m butterfly. Rob Langan justified his recall by storming home in PB time to win the mens open 100m backstroke. Salisbury were soon to enjoy relay success with the girls U12 medley relay & the boys U16 medley relay gaining Salisbury a double win.
Phoebe Wing notched another win for Salisbury by beating the field in the girls U14 50m freestyle. Elena Demetri & Clare Southon winning the girls U12 50m breastroke & U16 100m backstroke respectively helped Salisbury’s cause, with another win in the mens open medley relay soon to follow.
Katy Cutler enjoyed individual success when she finished 1st in the girls U12 50m freestyle. Salisbury again tasted a double success when Matilda Bryant & Sam Greenslade won the girls U14 50m backstroke & mens open 100m breastroke for consecutive wins.
Salisbury shifted through the gears & finished strongly by winning many of the remaining races. The girls U12 & U16 freestyle relay teams both claimed vital wins for the Stingrays. Sidney Fenwick had a great swim in the boys U14 50m butterfly as did Phoebe Wing in the girls equivalent, with Phil Muspratt comfortably winning the mens open 100m freestyle. The boys & girls U12 50m backstroke was another double win for Salisbury with Robery Croager & Emma Jackson doing the business. Luke Demetri dominated his race easing home in 1st place in the boys U16 100m breastroke.
The girls U14 freestyle relay team, along with the mens open freestyle relay team, allowed Salisbury to finish with a flourish by winning their respective races. However a costly 3rd place finish in the final race allowed Bradford on Avon to claw back the narrow 1 point lead that Salisbury held going into the race. This allowed an exciting contest to finish all square following several leads squandered, recovered, taken & lost again. The final round of the Summer League will be in September when the same four teams travel to Trowbridge.
Team Points Totals:
Bradford on Avon 162
