The second weekend of the Wiltshire County Championships was held at the Link Centre in Swindon. Saturday was the last day of the Age Group competition and some more great swimming ensured more County Champions, more medals, and more best times from our amazing swimmers.

The total medal haul of another 7 Gold, 4 Silver and 8 Bronze medals was a fantastic end to the championships and there were again many swimmers making finals and swimming lifetime best times.

On Saturday Salisbury had 22 swimmers competing in 46 races. There were 28 Personal Best times and another 7 swims within 1 second of their PB’s. This again also included a number of Regional championship qualifying times being achieved.

The Stingrays Gold medallists were:

  • Matthew Stanford-Jason (10/11) - 200m FC, 100m Fly, 200m BK
  • Alfie Mills (10/11) – 100 BR
  • Leo Iverson (12) – 100m BR
  • Jessica Kennedy (12) – 100m Fly, 100m BR

The Stingrays Silver medallists were:

  • Nat Plummer (10/11) – 100m BR
  • Nicholas Grant (12) – 400m IM, 200m BK
  • Erin Applegate (13) – 400m IM

The Stingrays Bronze medallists were:

  • Alfie Mills (10/11) – 200m BK
  • Leo Iverson (12) – 100m Fly
  • Nicholas Grant (12) – 200m FC, 100m BR, 100m Fly
  • Hana Whitfield (13) – 200m BK, 400m IM
  • Samuel Stanford-Jason (13) – 100m BR

Those who made finals did exceptionally well, often only having a couple of minutes rest after finishing one race before swimming their next race.

The swimmers continue to execute their race plans really well for the various distances and are now learning the race skills to be able to perform at their best in the finals. Unfortunately, we had a couple of DQ’s (which would also have added to the medal tally) which we will continue to work on and reinforce the technical requirements in training.

Finally, a big thank you to Amanda, as team manager for her hard work in getting the swimmers to their races on time and encouraging them to support their teammates. Behaviour on poolside was again exemplary, and the team spirit showed by all swimmers was fantastic.
