Congratulations to Katy Cutler who was a recipient of one of the new Funding Future Olympians and Paralympians Scholarships at the Wiltshire Sports Awards.
The club committee are getting on with the task of recruiting a new head coach and this is an update of our progress so far. An advert has been placed with Swimming Times – respected journal – both on line and in the printed publication for a new head coach with a closing date of 30th November. We will then choose a number of candidates for interview during December with a decision hopefully being made before Christmas. Depending on notice period we anticipate a new coach being in place by end of January 2013, but this is very much dependant on the existing commitments of the chosen individual. Until a new head coach is in place we will be using experienced level 3 coaches to cover ALL sessions currently taken by Eric and assure all affected swimmers and parents, of the club’s commitment to provide the highest level of coaching and support. Any temporary coaches will continue with Eric’s programme to ensure the swimmers continue to progress towards upcoming competitions.
We would like to assure all C, B and B1 squad swimmers, as well as those in learn to swim, that, during this interim period, Dave Currie will continue to offer the same level of coaching and teaching and will only take on additional coaching duties if they do not interfere with his current commitments.
Stingrays Swimmers at Wiltshire County Championships
Last month twenty five of the younger Stingrays swimmers (age 9 -13yrs) travelled to Swindon to compete against over 300 swimmers from throughout Wiltshire in the County Championships. Salisbury swimmers achieved over 130 personal best times from 153 races – a fantastic total & testament to the hard work of age group coach Dave Currie who coaches the majority of these swimmers.
Luke Demetri achieved a National qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke as well as three Wiltshire age group best time records. District times were achieved by Robert Croager, Sidney Fenwick, Luke Demetri, Georgia O’Keefe, Emma Jackson, Matilda Bryant & Phoebe Wing which enables these swimmers to compete in the South West Championships later in the year.
In her first County Championships Oni Taiwo came second overall in the 9yr old girls, Katy Cutler achieved fifth place in the 10 yr old girls and Phoebe was sixth (13 yr old girls). For the boys, Sidney was third (11 yr old boys) and Luke & Robert topped their respective age groups (13 & 10yrs).
Overall the club won 44 medals with Robert & Luke topping the table – they both won either gold or silver in all their races! As well as the district swimmers, other medallists included Elena Demetri, Oni, Katy & Luke Musselwhite.
Well done to all the swimmers who competed & thank you to Dave & Eric for all the coaching & support.
